Thirty-five years of
making the difficult thing
Glendon Good is a master craftsman who opened his shop in 1989 and has been building things that didn't previously exist ever since. He is best known for combining non-ferrous metals — primarily aluminum and copper — with wood, bamboo, glass and stone, on commission for architects, designers and inventors.
Much of the studio's design work over the past three decades was marketed under the Abraxas® trademark: a line of contemporary furniture running from bar stools to lounge chairs. The most successful of them, the Poseidon screen, won Interior Design magazine's ROSCOE Award and entered the permanent Decorative Arts collection at the Cooper-Hewitt, the Smithsonian's National Design Museum in New York.
The work has also been shown at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Italian architecture and design magazine Abitare called it “art and technology perfectly combined.”
Glendon stays involved in every part of making a piece — drawing, engineering, cutting, welding, finishing and crating. He is at his best on the awkward commissions: the ones where the integration of material, design and purpose hasn't been solved yet.
